Sierra Vista, AZ – The site for the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery was originally 130 acres of untouched high chaparral. Our intent was to integrate the cemetery into the landscape with a low ecological impact that was visually minimalistic and elegant. The buildings were conceived of forms and materials found in the historic buildings of Fort Huachuca; stone, concrete and steel.
Privacy and protection from the wind are provided by arcing screen walls that envelop the space, while maintaining the view of the Huachuca Mountains rising above the site.
